Rise&Shine II
Advancing Inclusive Migration Governance
Political Participation of Migrants & Refugees.

From Stage I to Stage II:
In stage I we worked with the migrant and refugee communities to introduce the project and engage with community and seek their inputs, perspective and voices on project objectives. We supported the community and; a) provided much-needed information on political and democratic processes, b) provided digital and physical spaces for sharing and organizing, c) identified feminist leaders from the community.
As a result, we have worked the community members who are familiar and who are engaged with the project and own it. Importantly, at the community level there is hope and increased sensitization, awareness and motivation to participate in politics. This is owing to the information and the success stories we have shared. Crucially, we have identified feminist leaders who plan to actively engage in political and democratic process.
Following participatory and collaborative approach, Rise & Shine II is designed ‘with’ the community and based on community’s inputs and suggestions.
Aim of Rise & Shine II (R&S II) is to build on the work done and the relationships developed and strengthened during the 1st stage. R&S II is a step forward as following the participatory approach, we have developed better clarity and focus on what the community wants to do and how. Rise and Shine Project will engage with community and support the identified feminist leaders as they hold tremendous potential for political innovation by utilising the unique insights and knowledge of these communities.

Rise and Shine aims to increase political participation of refugees and migrants by engaging feminist leaders to promote rich and diverse political landscape. Key objectives of the 2nd stage of the project are to;
-
Support Feminist Leaders
-
Develop policy brief
-
Organize, Mobilize and build Momentum

The objectives form 3 components of the project and are detailed below.
-
Support Feminist Leaders. During the 1st stage of Rise & Shine, we have identified Feminist Leaders from amongst the refugee and migrant communities. They have lived experience and embodied knowledges of political participation as they have been (actively) engaged as changemakers in their countries of origin. Now, they have shown interest to actively engage in political processes in the host country, The Netherlands. SEEK will work with them to devise plan for community engagement and to build momentum to run for political office. Secondly, we will work with these leaders to identify their own needs for capacity-building, resources and additional support.
-
Develop policy brief: SEEK will develop a policy brief with recommendations, perspective and voices of migrants and refugees to increase their participation in political and democratic process. Following SEEK core values of collaborating, nurturing and listening, we will collaborate with our network members including think tanks to develop this policy brief to help increase political participation of migrants and refugees. We have already held discussions with them for this collaboration.
Organize, Mobilize and build Momentum: 3rd component of the project aims to promote political change at; a) the systemic level, and b) individual/community level. To achieve this, SEEK will launch an advocacy campaign and a communications campaign. Aim of the advocacy campaign will be to push for systemic change towards inclusion of migrants and refugees as political office bearers. Whereas the communications campaign will help build momentum at the community level to increase political participation of community members for example to select, support and vote for their political representative/ leader. The recommendations from the policy brief will inform the advocacy and communications campaigns. Moreover, SEEK will help mobilise the community by sharing success stories and Information on political participation and democratic processes.
